Sardinia, home to Italy’s largest wind farm from Enel Green Power

As another 60 MW come online in Tula and Erula the Sa Turrina Manna wind farm owned by Enel’s renewable energy arm becomes the largest in Italy.
The total wind power capacity installed by Enel Green Power on the island has now risen to 161 MW

Forty new 1.5 MW wind turbines entered into service in the municipalities of Tula and Erula, in the province of Sassari, Sardinia, bringing the total capacity of the Sa Turrina Manna wind farm to 84 MW.
Therefore, Sa Turrina Manna will become the largest Enel Green Power wind farm in Italy. Enel Green Power is the Enel Group Company that develops and operates plants using the full range of renewable energy sources, both in Italy and worldwide.

At full capacity, the new wind farm will produce some 126 million kWh, enough to meet the energy needs of some 46,000 households, a little under half the population of a city the size of Sassari, thus avoiding the atmospheric emission of 94,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) and consumption of approximately 47,000 tons of oil equivalent per year.

The extension work on Sa Turrina Manna was completed in less than a year with due respect for the landscape and natural context of the area as well as of its existing activities.

There are a now total of 3 Enel Green Power wind farms in operation in Sardinia, with a total capacity of 161 MW, generating over 240 million kWh of power, and in 2010, work is scheduled to begin on the Portoscuso wind farm, that will have a potential capacity of some 100 MW.

In 2009, in Italy, Enel Green Power constructed wind farms for 94 MW. This figure includes those installed during the year as well as those under construction.
