After the hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we focused on putting technology at the service of small entrepreneurs, so as to revive the economy in areas near our hydroelectric power plants in Costa Rica. This led to the Mora Online app, a project developed by a group of Costa Ricans for the people of the Mora canton, so that they can buy products and services from small local businesses, in the comfort of their own homes, and with just one click. The idea stemmed from an internal competition launched at a global level by Enel so that the Group's employees could come up with solutions to remedy the various economic impacts of the pandemic in the areas where we are present, providing resources like time, money, ingenuity and creativity. This app for mobile phones and tablets was developed by the Municipality of Mora together with the Cantonal Union of Development Associations of Mora and Mora Unida. It helps users access a wide range of local products and services, covering categories such as: pet supplies, food, electronics, education, transportation, household products and professional services, among others. According to Luis Alberto Cerdas, Head of Operations and Maintenance for Enel Green Power in Costa Rica and leader of this project, "the aim of this initiative is to promote economic recovery by focusing on small entrepreneurs from the communities near Enel Green Power plants." The app already has more than 40 registered vendors and, as Cerdas explained, "the project can be replicated in other countries.” This project implements Enel's Creating Shared Value strategy, as it seeks to transform corporate social responsibility into something even more meaningful, by identifying actions in the short, medium and long term, aligning the business perspective with the needs of local communities through concrete and recognizable initiatives.
