Anheuser-Busch partners with Enel Green Power: Brewing Budweiser with wind power
Anheuser-Busch, the leading American brewer, believes that great beer requires a healthy planet. In 2017, the company partnered with Enel Green Power on its first contracted utility-scale renewable energy project globally, a major step forward in delivering on its promise to create purpose beyond brewing. Today, in 2021, the brewer has reached its goal 4 years earlier of brewing all its products using 100% renewable energy.
Cheers to sustainability
Central to Anheuser-Busch’s business strategy is sustainability. Understanding that growing the renewable energy market and reducing the company’s carbon emissions are key to long-term success, Anheuser-Busch approached Enel Green Power in search of a purchased renewable electricity solution. The brewing leader was looking to set an industry example of how major companies can help to make a difference in climate change while furthering its ambitious sustainability goals and benefitting the bottom line.
The solution is a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) at the Budweiser Wind Farm at Thunder Ranch. Enel Green Power designed an agreement whereby Anheuser-Busch purchases 152.5 MW of sustainable energy from the Thunder Ranch Wind Farm in Oklahoma. This partnership is enabling Anheuser-Busch to brew all of the Budweiser made in the US with renewable electricity from wind power, and supported the brewer in reaching its goal of using 100% renewable energy 4 years earlier than the initial target of 2025. Now that’s a partnership we can cheers to!
