The Plant

Castelmauro wind farm, Italy

The Castelmauro wind farm in Molise, is located between the boroughs of Castelmauro and Roccavivara, in the province of Campobasso, and consists of seven wind turbines of 4.2 MW each, the largest we have installed so far in Italy, for a total equal to 29.4 MW. The height of the wind turbines reaches 105 meters, and each is equipped with an internal lift: it takes about 6 minutes to reach the top. The electricity produced by the wind farm, which in this way will avoid the use of 15 million cubic meters of gas every year, is able to serve a quarter of the families in Molise.

Impact on local communities

Local companies were involved in the construction of the new plant, in particular for civil engineering, services and maintenance operations.

As part of the construction works, the earth from the excavations was almost entirely reused, applying the lime stabilization technology and thus determining a positive impact in environmental terms.

A birdlife prevention and monitoring system was installed on the wind turbines to protect the species present in the area.
