The "Cherasco" hydroelectric power plant in Isorella
The "Cherasco" hydroelectric power plant is one of the oldest in Italy. It is located at the foot of the small promontory where the ancient town of Cherasco stands, in Isorella, in the Val Tanaro (Tanaro Valley) in the province of Cuneo (it is not to be confused with the other, larger Isorella, which is near Brescia). The plant went into operation in 1901. It is of the flowing water variety, and was originally built and operated by the Society for the Development of Electrical Enterprises in Italy. It has two Francis-type generating units.
