What were you doing on 16 November? For many of us, this date is not connected to anything memorable. For Enel Green Power’s solar Engineering & Construction (E&C) team at at work at the Rubi plant in Peru, it’s a moment to remember and share. "Just 5 days after the plant’s first synchronization, we put all of Rubi’s 180 MW into service. A huge achievement that sets an all-time record for commissioning for photovoltaic plants launched so far by EGP." Fabrizio Fiorani, Head of Construction in EGP Engineering & Construction The 16th November record arrived a few hours before the date of the plant’s first anniversary. Its construction was officially started on 17 November 2016. "A project that, despite being the first solar plant we’ve built in Peru, has had exceptional performance not only for the speed of its start-up but also in construction time and in safety, with more than 1 million work hours without an accident." Fabrizio Fiorani, Head of Construction in EGP Engineering & Construction Excellence as a Trademark The Rubi plant is located in the Moquegua district of the province of Mariscal Nieto and is able to generate about 440 GWh a year. "Rubi is Enel Green Power’s largest photovoltaic plant in Peru and its construction involved a team of more than 50 people from various EGP Divisions." Another noteworthy aspect is the good relationship with the communities, obtaining almost 90% Peruvian labour and 60% of negotiations in the project’s zone of influence. The news crossed the ocean right away, from Peru to our headquarters in Rome, Italy, to then spread to all the members of the big solar family in EGP’s Engineering & Construction, for whom every success achieved by the team around the world is also a personal success. "The 560,880 solar panels that make up the Rubi plant were installed at a fast pace, with an average of 5,500 a day." The mail from Rodrigo Quiroz Silva, Site Manager for Enel Green Power in Chile and the Andean states, and Gianluca Mancini, Senior Commissioning Manager for EGP, announcing the full production of the solar field was huge news and an expected, though not assumed, surprise: Rubi is a plant that made excellence its trademark. Renewables Leader in Peru Enel invested about 170 million US dollars for the construction of Rubi, financing the project with the Group’s own resources and supporting the solar plant with a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru. "We won the PPA to support the Rubi project by participating in the public tender for renewable energies launched in 2015 by the authority OSINERGMIN." After winning a total of 326 MW, including 126 MW of wind and 20 MW of hydropower, EGP will become the main operator active in renewable energies in Peru in 2018, in addition to being the only company in the country to manage plants based on three different renewable technologies.
